Degree Requirements

41 credits minimum, 31 credits upper division. 

Performance Emphasis

 A Performance Emphasis is for students who are interested in a career as a professional actor in theater and in other performance mediums. 

Performance Emphasis Requirements

  • TA 133:  Acting I

  • Take one of the following:

    • TA 160:  Production Lab: Costumes

    • TA 161:  Production Lab: Scenery

  • TA 167:  Design & Production for Stage & Media

  • TA 331:  Advanced Scene Study

  • TA 333:  Acting: Styles

  • TA 334:  Stage Speech

  • TA 335:  Movement for the Stage

  • TA 342:  History of Theatre and Drama I

  • TA 343:  History of Theatre and Drama II      

  • TA 367:  Light/Sound Design for Stage and Media

    or TA 368:  Scenic Design for Stage and Media

  • or TA 369: Costume Design for Stage and Media

  • TA 475:  Directing I

  • TA 477:  20th Century Theatre-Capstone 

Technical Theatre Emphasis

The areas of technical theatre are scenery, lighting, properties, costuming, hair/makeup, and sound. Technical theatre encompasses all that goes into making a staged production. All of these areas work together to establish the place, time period, and mood of the production.

Technical Theatre Emphasis Requirements

  • TA 133:  Acting I

  • Take one of the following:

    • TA 160:  Production Lab: Costumes

    • TA 161:  Production Lab: Scenery

  • TA 162:  Production Lab: Sound/Lighting

  • TA 163:  Production Lab: Makeup

  • TA 167:  Design & Production for Stage & Media

  • TA 342:  History of Theatre and Drama I

  • TA 343:  History of Theatre and Drama II

  • TA 360:  Advanced Production Lab (2 credits total - 1 credit each)

  • TA 360:  Advanced Production Lab

  • TA 367:  Light/Sound Design for Stage and Media

  • TA 368:  Scenic Design for Stage and Media

  • TA 369:  Costume Design for Stage and Media

  • TA 475:  Directing I

  • TA 477:  20th Century Theatre-Capstone

 

Theatre Arts Major (Performance Emphasis) with additional Interdisciplinary Emphasis in Musical Theatre Requirements 

12 credits minimum. 

  • Take at least 2 courses from the following:

    • MUS 142:  Voice           

    • MUS 342:  Voice

  • MUS 107:  Music Theory I

  • MUS 109:  Musicianship Skills I

  • MUS 111:  Keyboard Harmony I

  • MUS 403:  History of Musical Theater

  • TA 337:  Dance for Music Theatre

  • TA 370:  Acting for Music Theatre

This structure outlines the major requirements for Music Theater, specifying the required courses and ensuring students take a minimum of two courses from the unspecified MUS 142 or MUS 342 options.
