Degree Requirements

Bachelor of Arts in Physics

33-35 credits minimum, 23-25 upper division; 16 supporting = 49-51 total credits.

Required Courses:

  • PHYS 211/211L: Physics for Scientists and Engineers I and Lab (recommended)

    • Alternative: PHYS 201/201L: General Physics I

  • PHYS 212/212L: Physics for Scientists and Engineers II and Lab (recommended)

    • Alternative: PHYS 202/202L: General Physics II

  • PHYS 303: Modern Physics

  • PHYS 310: Physical Modeling with Matlab

  • PHYS 300: Pre-Capstone Seminar

  • PHYS 475: Capstone Senior Thesis

  • Select one of the following:

    • PHYS 309/309L: Applied Electronics and Lab

    • PHYS 340: Advanced Experimental Physics

    • PHYS 425: Geometric and Physical Optics

  • Select one of the following ( 2 - 4 credits):

    • PHYS 492: Internship

    • PHYS 494: Capstone Research Project

    • PHYS 496: Directed Research

    • UNIV 496: Directed Research

  • Upper Division Electives - 8 credits

*The concentration is a minimum of 12 credits in a single field outside of math or physics. It is expected that the presentation for the capstone will incorporate both physics and the field of concentration. Only physics courses numbered 200 and above can count toward the physics credit requirements.
