The Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program: Examining Social, Crime, Justice Issues
Course Description
The Cal Lutheran Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program course takes an innovative approach to facilitate dialogue and education across profound social differences. This course brings together traditional campus-based students with incarcerated or formerly incarcerated students held in a prison, jail, or other correctional settings for a shared college learning experience. Students will deepen their understanding of crime, punishment, rehabilitation, restoration, and social justice. This course will explore criminal justice social norms while considering the causes and consequences of mass incarceration, victimization, and community impacts. Students will learn about ways to create social change through connecting theoretical knowledge with practical experiences. Must have Junior standing; Permission by Instructor only.
